Botox®

What is Botox® and how does it work?

Botox®, also known as Botulinum toxin, temporarily weakens tiny facial muscles in a precise area, causing the treated site to become smooth and wrinkle free. This is done with a small needle, using a sparse amount of the liquid. The exact sites for injection are carefully marked by the physician prior to treatment. Surrounding facial muscles are not affected, allowing normal facial expression.

What can Botox® do for you?

In addition, Botox® has been used safely and effectively for many years on various neurological and ophthalmologic disorders. It has emerged more recently as a new treatment for reducing visible signs of aging, particularly in the area of the upper face. A side benefit to Botox® injections can be the reshaping of the eyebrows, which can cause the eyes to appear more open, creating a more youthful look.

Botox® is effective in treating the following:
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Crow’s Feet at the corner of the eyes
  • Lip lines
  • Horizontal lines on the neck

When will I see results?

A smoothing of lines produces a more youthful appearance which will be observed within three to four days after the injections. "Crow's feet" respond well to Botox® and can be somewhat resistant to other cosmetic treatments. It is important to note that the results of Botox® injections are temporary and must be repeated to continue to enjoy the enhancement results. In most cases, the effects last from four to six months, and research indicates that the duration of benefits last longer with repeated treatments.

Is Botox® right for me?

Individuals with neuromuscular disease, such as myasthenia gravis, should not have Botox® injections. It is also contraindicated in those having an allergy to human albumin, as well as those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Does the treatment hurt?

There is little or no discomfort from Botox® injections. The sensation has been described as similar to a bug bite. You can resume normal activities immediately. After your treatment you will be instructed to remain in an upright position and refrain from manipulating the treated area for four hours after the procedure. Dr. Hodari is emphatic about the need for a 2 week follow up after each Botox® session in order to ensure the results are highly satisfactory to the patient.

Botox® is fast becoming the most highly requested cosmetic treatment!
